COURSE OVERALL LEARNING GOAL:
STORM Training Group presents Legal Updates for Law Enforcement with guest instructor, police sergeant and licensed attorney, John Cajacob. This 4-hour class will focus on topics such as the legal doctrine of Qualified Immunity, on both a national and local level, as well as provide updated information on recent binding court decisions that are relevant to police officers in the State of Minnesota. Appellate court cases from the 8th Circuit and U.S. Supreme Court cases (including Caniglia v. Strom) will be discussed.
Upon completion of this training students will be able to:
· Understand what Qualified Immunity is and how the doctrine is applied;
· Understand the current state of Qualified Immunity on both a national and local level;
· Understand and apply recent court decisions to their position as police officers.
